Avery joined Hakluyt in 2025.

Before Hakluyt, she spent 18 years at the Central Intelligence Agency, served in the White House, and led the Department of Homeland Security’s intelligence agency. She focused on the Middle East, Asia, economic security, and critical infrastructure, and also worked at the US Embassy in Cairo during the Arab Spring.

 Avery has degrees from Columbia University and the National Defense University.
