Rt Hon Lord William Hague

Lord Hague is a former UK Foreign Secretary. He is also a director of Intercontinental Exchange, and chair of ICE Futures Europe and the Royal Foundation of the Prince and Princess of Wales. He writes a weekly column for The Times. William was elected an MP in 1989, and remained in parliament for more than a quarter of a century. In 1997, he was elected leader of the Conservative Party, a role he held for several years. He later wrote William Pitt the Younger: A Biography (2004), which won History Book of the Year at the British Book Awards, and William Wilberforce: The Life of the Great Anti-Slave Trade Campaigner (2007). In 2005, William became shadow foreign secretary, and was First Secretary of State and Foreign Secretary in the new coalition government of the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats after the 2010 general election. In 2015, he stood down from the House of Commons, became a life peer, and entered the House of Lords.
